(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines rates the Tornadoes that struck Union and Madison Counties on Friday, April 26, an EF2.
According to the Weather Service, from 6:52 p.m. to 7:08 p.m., an EF2 tornado blazed a path of damage from Creston northeast for 6.82 miles. The 350-yard-wide Twister carried wind speeds of 125 miles per hour.
The Weather Service says another EF2, starting west of Afton in Union County, traveled 11.69 miles, with wind speeds of 125 miles per hour, and was on the ground for 22 minutes before lifting in Madison County.
The preliminary report shows an EF2 east of Afton from 7:26 to 7:44. This one carried 130 miles per hour wind speeds and traveled 10.77 miles per hour for 10.97 miles.
An EF1 Tornado was reported from Mount Ayr in Ringgold County. It had wind speeds of 110 Miles per hour, was 300 yards wide, and traveled 26.59 miles.
The weather service also reported an EFO tornado from Madison County into Dallas County, an EF1 in Jasper County, and another EF2 in Polk and Clarke Counties.
