(Iowa City, IA) – The Iowa women’s basketball team has been selected as the #1 seed in the Albany Regional and will host the NCAA First and Second Rounds this Saturday and next Monday, March 25th.
The Hawkeyes will not play in Saturday’s game but #8 seed West Virginia or the #9 seed Princeton will face off against one another on Saturday as the Hawkeyes will eventually take on the winner of that game down the line. Looking at the Hawkeyes’ next opponent, they’ll take on the 16-seeds Holy Cross and UT-Martin which will face off on Thursday.
Iowa has now been named the #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament just three times in school history in 1988, 1992, and in 2024. The Hawkeyes are just 2-2 all-time in the Tournament while ranked as the #1 seed in their respective region.
The Hawkeyes finished the 2023-24 season with a 29-4 record while winning the Big Ten Conference Championship for the third straight season. They’ll look to go on to the NCAA Championship game this season once again after getting beat by LSU last year in the 2023 Championship.
