Gene Roger Suplee, age 71, of Anita, IA, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Caring Acres Nursing Home in Anita, IA.
Gene Roger Suplee was born on November 14, 1952, to Lester Harry and Beatrice Lilly Mortensen Suplee. Interestingly, Gene’s brother, Larry was born on the same day in 1947.
Gene was the third of four boys. Gene enjoyed living on the farm south of Anita with his parents and brothers, Duane, Larry, and Ricky. The family moved from the farm to a house in Anita in 1962.
Gene started school at a country school. He attended Anita Elementary, Anita Junior High, and graduated from Anita High School in 1970. Gene was a member of the Boy Scouts. He was a good student and participated in football, wrestling, drama club, speech, chorus, and band in high school. He loved their horse, Tony, and enjoyed riding him. Gene was a kind, gentle person with a good sense of humor. He enjoyed music, playing the guitar, cars, and fishing. He was a member of the Anita Church of Christ.
He graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1974. He completed his Journeyman Apprenticeship Training in 1995.
Gene met Craig Altis Thieman in college, and they were married on June 14, 1975 in Higginsville, Missouri. Craig and Gene lived in Colorado Springs and Iowa City. They loved their fur children, especially Eldridge and Zeke. Sadly, Craig died of cancer on August 5, 1982 at the age of 28.
Gene lived in Washington, Newton, and Anita after Craig died. He was a certified electrician and worked at Meisner Electric and DeVries Electric.
Gene became a resident of Caring Acres in June of 2019 due to failing health. He enjoyed having visitors.
Gene is survived by two nephews, Ted and Lester Suplee, sisters-in-law Romona Shramek and Lisa Peterson, aunts Norma Burnham and Karen Kaiser, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Duane, Larry, and Ricky, maternal and paternal grandparents, in-laws William and Beulah Thieman, brother-in-law William Jr. Thieman, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Open visitation with a meal will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA.
Interment will take place at Higginsville Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
