(Madrid) Madrid Head Football Coach Brock Hinkel says the team has not looked too far ahead or thought about what they have done. This approach has proven successful as the (10-0) Tigers head into this Class A quarterfinal matchup with (10-0) ACGC tonight.
The Tigers lost an opening-round playoff game one year ago. Hinkel says that loss has been gnawing on the returning players this season. The Tigers were a #2 seed hosting Southwest Valley.
This is a game between two coaches who were teammates at Madrid, with similar philosophies, and that is running the ball. The Chargers have rushed for 3,734 yards, and Madrid 3,058.
Coach Hinkel says they are treating this game just like every game this season and trying to keep things as normal as possible.
Coach Hinkel says he is happy for Coach Matthewson for what he has done with the ACGC football program and is looking for a good matchup.
Both teams have forced their share of turnovers. ACGC has recovered ten fumbles and picked off 12 passes. Madrid has six fumble recoveries and 14 interceptions.
Regarding special teams, Madrid kicker Kyzer Springer is 40/46 kicking PATS’ and one-for-two kicking field goals, and that was a 39-yarder that split the uprights. Tyler Fuller has only punted the ball eleven times this season for an average of 36.1 yards per kick.
For ACGC, Oliver Wetzel has kicked off 52 times and made 42-of-45 extra points. ACGC has punted 18 times this season. Mike Fuller averages 23.7 yards per try, and Treyton Schneider averages 31.1 yards per punt.
The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. We will have the broadcast on 96.5 F.M. KSOM and audio streamed on westerniowatoday.com. The pre-game show starts at 6:30.
