(Fort Dodge, IA) – Des Moines Christian continues to take titles as the girls and boys both win the 2023 Class 2A Cross-Country Championship as the boys finish with a total of just 63 points. Des Moines Christian featured three top-ten finishers including Collin Houg in fourth at 15:58.3, Caleb Ten Pas in seventh at 16:16.1, and Jack McPartland in 10th at 16:25.0. Finishing in first was Mid-Prairie Wellman’s Emmett Swartzentruber at 15:51.0 and in second was Denver’s Neal Pinter at 15:53.9. Finishing in third from Okoboji Milford was Evan Osler at 15:55.1. Alex Torres of Vinton-Shellsburg finished in sixth at 16:12.6 as Brandon Hughes of Spirit Lake finished in eighth at 16:19.5. With the ninth-placed finish was Owen Schmidgall of Mediapolis at 16:22.3.
Local top-ten finisher was Kyle Wagoner of Clarinda as he finished in fifth place at 15:59.6. The junior was able to keep up the pace with the other top-ten finishers as he was able to continue to pull with the top runners in the state as Wagoner is now one of those top finishers. Not only did he earn his personal best time at 15:59.6, but the junior did it in conditions that were unfavorable, to say the least with temperatures nearing just 30 degrees in Fort Dodge this morning. Wagoner thanks his teammates and his coaches for his success this season. He specifically gave a shout-out to 28th-placed finisher Treyton Schaapherder for helping him push all season long to get him to this finish today.
