(Fort Dodge, IA) – In the Class 2A girls’ cross-country championship meet, the Des Moines Christian girls earned the Championship title as they scored 101 total points. Finishing for Des Moines Christian were Stella Pothoven in 17th at 19:44.9 and Meryl Casady in 20th at 19:51.2. Looking into the top-ten individual finishers in the meet, finishing in first was Hillary Trainor for Sumner-Fredericksburg at 18:09.5. Finishing in second was McKenna Montgomery of Albia at 18:35.7. Jesup featured the third and fourth-placed runners of Mackenzie Wilson at 18:38.7 in third and Clare Wright at 18:46.2 in fourth. Finishing in fifth was Danielle Hostetler of Mid-Prairie Wellman at 18:55.3 alongside Lauren Krogmann of Starmont West Central in sixth at 18:57.8. Hailey Egbert of Shenandoah finished in eighth at 19:05.0 followed by Crestwood Cresco’s Kinze Shea in ninth at 19:07.5 and Scarlett Byrnes of Osage in 10th at 19:08.9.
We of course didn’t forget about seventh-placed finisher Raenna Henke of Clarinda as she finished at her personal best at 19:00.3 in the State Championship. The top-ten finisher not only had her best race but did it in conditions that were not favorable all season long with a 30-degree high in Fort Dodge this morning. The junior went out fast in the beginning and continued to pick up the pace while holding onto the race the entire way. She sat in third throughout the first mile and pushed back just slightly to seventh where she ended up finishing in the meet. Tom Robinson was in Fort Dodge for the Class 2A girls’ meet where he had the opportunity to talk to Henke about her excellent performance.
The other local finishers include Clarinda’s Elaina Hesse in 74th at 21:11.6, Alexa Barnes in 120th at 22:43.5, Riley King in 127th at 23:09.7, Kyler Downey in 130th at 23:17.0, Richlyn Muff in 131st at 23:24.9, and Kambry Gordon in 135th at 23:44.2 all for Clarinda.
