(Denison) The Iowa State Patrol wrapped up a speed demo this past month at the Iowa State Fair and plans to continue the demonstration at area schools.
In early July, an 18-year-old male driver and two 17-year-old female passengers died in a single-vehicle crash in Dubuque. The 2014 Camaro, traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on the NW Arterial at around 1:20 a.m., went out of control, entered a ditch, went airborne, and rolled. The victim’s parents turned the crashed vehicle over to the Iowa State Patrol to demonstrate to the public that speed can be deadly.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper and District #4 Public Information Officer Shelby McCreedy says this year’s highest speed clocked was 150 miles per hour.
McCreedy says there is a lot of dangerous speeding going on every day that we don’t see, and it’s a matter of making intelligent decisions, especially for young drivers, and teaching them that speed is indeed deadly.
