(Des Moines, IA) — Two men are in custody in connection with a shooting near two Des Moines schools. On Tuesday, police say a person in one car fired shots at someone else in traffic while driving near Roosevelt High School and Hubbell Elementary School. On Wednesday, police say they were alerted via license plate reader that a stolen vehicle connected to the shooting was being driven on the west side of Des Moines. An officer tried to pull the car over when the driver and passenger fled on foot. After a drone and K9 search, the two suspects were arrested. Twenty-three-year-old Immanuel Austin is facing charges including first-degree theft and eluding, and 24-year-old Donta Clyce Harris faces a charge of interference with official acts.

According to a post from his family, Derek Phillips, the band’s mellophone section leader, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest after collapsing in the heat during last Saturday’s game. His family says they made the difficult decision to remove him from life support. The Hawkeye Marching Band says it will honor Phillips throughout the remainder of the season.

(Linn County, IA) — The most expensive home in Iowa has been listed for sale at ten-point-two-million dollars. A new report by Realtor-dot-com says the current owners purchased the home in Toddville, near Cedar Rapids, in 2020 for just less than three-million-dollars. If it sells at the asking price, listing agent Holly Lovell says it would be the most expensive home sale on record in Iowa. That record is currently set by a property in Spirit Lake, which sold for nine-point-five-million dollars two years ago.
Waukee City Council Approves Plans To Build New Walmart
(Waukee, IA) — The Waukee City Council has approved plans for a Walmart at Hickman and Alice’s Road. The plan was approved by the Council at a meeting Tuesday, where several members of the community voiced concerns like traffic and noise. Walmart says the company wants to serve the community, and plans to stay in Waukee for a long time. Waukee Mayor Courtney Clarke says there will be ongoing conversations between the company and the City to make sure the partnership is a good fit. Aside from the Walmart store, the plan also includes a gas station, pharmacy, and automotive service center.
Iowa State Cyclones Making Changes To 2027 Schedule
(Ames, IA) — The Iowa State Cyclones are making a slight change to the 2027 football schedule. ISU and South Dakota State have agreed to move the season opened up to August 28 instead of September 4. That leaves the first Saturday in September open on next year’s schedule. As for this season, the Cyclones are heading to Iowa City Saturday for the 2026 CyHawk game, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m.
