(Atlantic) A seven-run second inning sparks the Atlantic baseball team to a 12-4 win over Missouri Valley in a non-conference tilt at Atlantic on Tuesday night.
The Trojans scored 12 runs on 14 hits. Tristan Hayes picked up the win on the mound for the Trojans. The sophomore allowed one run on three hits, struck out six batters, walked four, and hit a batter. Jackson McLaren blasted a three-RBI double, added two singles, and scored two runs to lead the Trojans. Tanner O’Brien drilled two doubles and one RBI, and Easton O’Brien hit a two-bagger.
Eli Fouts led off the top of the first inning with a double and scored, putting the visitors up 1-0. Carter Pellett reached on an error and scored on Xavier Darrow’s single. Tanner O’Brien hit a double, driving home Darrow to give Atlantic a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame.
The Trojans broke loose in the bottom of the second inning with seven runs on five hits for a 9-1 cushion. Jackson McLaren’s led the charge with a 3 RBI double, and Carter Pellett added a 2 RBI single to account for five of the seven runs. Jayden Proehl, Clevi Johnson, and Jaice Larson contributed to the cause with singles.
The Big Reds plated three runs in the fourth to stay within arm’s length but remained scoreless in the final three innings. Justin Reed and Eli Fouts led Missouri Valley with a double and a triple, respectively.
Atlantic extends its record to 3-0 and hosts Denison-Schleswig on Thursday night. Missouri Valley falls to 1-4 and hosts Shenandoah on Wednesday.
