(Undated) The U.S. Department of Labor says an Iowa proposal contradicts federal child labor laws. The state legislature passed a bill this session–which is yet to be signed into law–that loosens labor restrictions. The review finds the proposal lets 14 and 15-year-olds work longer hours than federal law allows. The proposal also lets 14 and 15-year-olds work in meat freezers and industrial laundries, which contradicts federal law. The department is investigating more than 600 child labor law violations nationwide, including in Iowa.
