(Atlantic) Roth Den Beste opened the season with a 36 to lead Atlantic over Kuemper by one stroke, 160-161. Den Beste Medaled and Maverick Schwabe of Kuemper finished runner-up with a 37.
“Roth had a great round,” said Atlantic Head Coach Ed Den Beste. “He didn’t always hit the best of shots but scrambled well and made some great putts and a chip in on 3.”
Tristan Hayes added a 40 for the Trojans, Hudson McLaren, 41, Cruz Weaver and Sam Brosam, 43’s, and Trevan Hansen brought in a 46.
“Tristan got on the bogey train and had to work to get off it,” said Den Beste. “He did finish well with several pars. Hudson started well. He had a challenging 6th hole but finished well for the first match. Sam and Cruz had rough spots but battled hard to keep things together. Good to see them help each other around the course. Trevan also has some challenging holes but fought to keep them as low as possible.
“This was a great first test for us,” said Atlantic Head Coach Ed Den Beste. “Kuemper and Atlantic have battled for many years, and we always start with a great match-up. We knew we needed to shoot a good score in the match. Tough though, when you have three new players on varsity, and it is your first match of the year.”
