(Atlantic) Jace Gubbels’ big scoring night helped lead Harlan to a 70-46 win over Atlantic on Tuesday night at Atlantic. The senior, averaging just over three points per game, knocked down 23 to lead all scorers.
The Trojans ended the first quarter on an 8-0 run, and led 15-13. Colton Rasmussen splashed down two three-point baskets and scored 11 of the home team’s 15 first-quarter points.
Harlan countered in the second quarter with 24 points while holding the Trojans to 10. Gubbels scored 15 of the team’s 24, and Jacob Birch added seven. Birch finished the game with 18.
The Cyclones leading 37-25 at the break, came out in the second half and extended their lead to 56-39. Jacob Birch led the charge with nine third-quarter points. Harlan added 14 more in the final frame while holding Atlantic to seven, securing the 70-46 victory.
Besides Gubbels, 23, and Birch’s’ 18, Teagon Kasperbauer scored 14, Jozef Reisz, 9, Brad Curren, 4, and Franz Riesz, 2.
Harlan extends its record to 17-4 and plays Creston on Friday.

The Trojans, now 7-12, travel to Denison for their regular season finale o’ Tuesday, February 14.
