(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors received an update from Summit Carbon Solutions on Tuesday.
Summit Carbon Solutions is partnering with ethanol plants to capture carbon dioxide and channel it to North Dakota where it will be permanently and safely stored underground in deep geologic storage locations.
Riley Gibson, Relationship Manager with TurnKey Logistics, said they are still expecting to start construction late this summer. However, they are still waiting on approval from the Iowa Utilities Board for a permit.
Gibson said they are at 84.85-percent, or 21.36 voluntary easement miles required in the County. For the state, they are at 61.83-percent, or 423.3 easement miles required as of January 4th. He reiterated that their goal is to not use eminent domain.
Gibson addressed a question about the dangers of the pipeline rupturing…
Gibson said there are also plans to get trainings set up with local fire departments and first responders.
In Pottawattamie County, the eight-inch high-carbon steel line will run south, entering Pottawattamie County from Shelby County just west of Highway M23 between Shelby and Avoca; move east between Hancock and Oakland; then go south again just west of 430th Street and enter into Montgomery County.
