(NAFB) As recently as September, rural counties had higher rates of COVID-19 than urban areas. Health experts says it’s killing rural Americans at twice the rate of urban residents. Dr. Steven Gordon is Chair of the Department of Infectious Disease at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. He says 35 percent of rural American’s aren’t vaccinated, 10 percent higher than suburban and urban residents.
With the holiday season upon us, it’s important to protect vulnerable friends and relatives.
He says COVID isn’t someone else’s issue, it’s everybody’s problem as over 700,000 people have lost their lives. Gordon wants everyone to encourage their family and friends to get vaccinated if they haven’t yet. The vaccine is safe and effective.
Even with breakthrough cases, he said the COVID-19 vaccine still offers benefits.
For questions about COVID-19 and vaccines, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or health care professional. You can also visit vaccines.gov to learn more and find out where to get vaccinated in your area.
