(Marion County) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigate a fatal hunting accident in Marion County.
The DNR says the incident happened on Saturday around 2:45 p.m. at the Lake Red Rock Wildlife Management Area south of Lake Red Rock in Marion County.
Authorities believe a large hunting party member fired a round, fatally striking another hunter in the same group during a deer drive.
The investigation into the hunting-related shooting is ongoing at this time. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is assisting at the scene.
Hunters are reminded of the following safety tips:
- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
- Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
- Know your intended target and its surroundings.
Do not touch the gun’s trigger until you’re ready to shoot.
