(Greenfield) Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II will announce the location of his 100th Freedom Rock on Veterans Day this Thursday, November 11.
In 1999, Ray Sorensen painted the original Freedom Rock in Adair County. Over the past two decades, the artist and his family toured the state of Iowa painting giant boulders in all 99 Iowa counties as a thank you to our nation’s veterans to honor their service to our country.
After finishing the tour, Sorensen decided to cap it off with the 100th Freedom Rock. The Sorensen’s conducted an auction, and the family accepted a $20,000 bid. The Sorensen’s will announce the winning bidder and the 100th Freedom Rock’s location on Facebook on November 11.
The Sorensen’s held the auction as a way for communities to demonstrate support and gratitude for our nation’s service members and fund the needs of Veterans, with a portion of the proceeds going to The Puppy Jake Foundation and T.A.P.S. Foundation.
Sorensen and his family will now focus on a Freedom Rock in every state, adding to Freedom Rocks already placed in North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Washington, and Nebraska. Projects are scheduled for Ohio, Illinois, and Oklahoma.
