(Atlantic) On Wednesday, the Atlantic City Council will consider a resolution moving adoption fees to a flat rate at the Atlantic Animal Shelter.
The current adoption fees for cats are $10.00, with an additional $55.00 to $130.00 for veterinary costs. For dogs, adoption fees are $25.00, with an additional $60.00 to $265.00 for vet fees.
Shelter manager Kris Erickson says State regulations now require animal shelters to vaccinate and spay, and neuter all animals in their care.
The resolution, if passed, would move the fees to a flat rate, $100.00 for cats and $200.00 for dogs.
Atlantic City Administrator John Lund stated in the meeting packet that the fees are low compared to other animal adoption agencies in the region, ranging from $60 to $250 for cat adoptions and $100 to $500 for dogs.
