(Guthrie Co.) A Marion man was injured in an ATV accident in Guthrie County.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says 48-year-old Jeffery Barth was traversing a left hand curve, traveling generally northbound in the 260th block of Lost Trail, and was driving too fast for the curve. The ATV lost traction on the gravel surface, entered the east ditch at a high rate of speed, launched off the roadway into the ditch, overturned and ejected Barth. The ATV came to rest facing west in the ditch with Barth lying next to it near the fence line.
Barth was transported to the Guthrie County Hospital by Panora EMS. Barth admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the accident and believed he would be over the legal limit. Barth consented to a breath test with a result of .055 BrAC approximately thirty minutes after law enforcements arrival and close to one hour after the accident. Barth is revoked for prior OWI and has no insurance for the ATV. Ignition interlock device was required, but not present. Criminal charges will follow.
The Sheriff’s Office says it appeared Barth was riding in an organized ATV event and was found shortly after the wreck. Speed, Recklessness and alcohol were the main contributing factors in the wreck.
