(Atlantic) The CAM and Nodaway Valley School District’s Revenue Purpose Statement passed by overwhelming margins.
According to the Cass County Auditor’s Office, there were 182 ballots cast, and 170 voted yes, and 12 people voted no.
Adair County Auditor Mandy Berg says 161 patrons cast votes, and 107 voted yes, and nine voted no.
The purpose of the vote is to direct the two districts’ spending of the state’s penny sales tax revenues. Voters in all 99 counties approved the sales tax to upgrade school facilities without increase property taxes. The SILO was originally intended to last 10 years. In 2008, the Legislature changed the SILO local option into a state penny sales tax to benefit all school districts. In 2019, the legislature further extended the state penny.
The state will continue to collect the penny on retail purchases through December 31, 2050, and will continue to send the proceeds to all Iowa School Districts.
The funds will be used to provide funds to acquire or install information technology infrastructure (including improving buildings or sites to access broadband digital telecommunications) and school safety and security infrastructure. Build and furnish a new school building or buildings; and furnish addition(s) to school buildings in the District; to remodel, reconstruct, repair, expand, and improve the school buildings in the District; to purchase and improve grounds; for demolition work; to furnish and equip district facilities name a few.
