(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board is considering a 1:1 computer upgrade proposal.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber says a lot has changed since the School Board approved the 1:1 High School Computer program. The district purchased 500 Apple Computers seven years ago, and the initial plan was for those devices to last four years. The computers lasted seven years. Additionally, the district upgraded from a 9th-12th 1:1 program to a Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade 1:1 plan. Mr. Barber says on top of that, the Chrome Books have made some great gains in the past seven years, and the repair bills on the old ones are starting to add up.
Under the proposal; the district could get rid of the computers on hand and receive some revenue from the computers with some worth. The district would then purchase I-Pads for the Pre-K and Kindergarten students and Chrome books for students in first grade through 12th. Currently, the students do 98-percent of their work on the web, and the Chrome books are all web-based.
The School Board will vote on the plan at their regular meeting on March 10.
