(Des Moines) The National Weather Service says significant travel impacts are possible on Thursday through most of Iowa. A cold front is forecast to push through the state on Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon, bringing with it strong northwest winds with gusts up to 40-miles per hour and higher and plummeting temperatures.
Donavon says total snow accumulations may be light, (1-3 inches) but snowfall rates could be heavy at times producing low visibility. He says falling temperatures may quickly turn any wet roads to ice. Low visibility from blowing snow could be near-blizzard conditions in rural areas. Any falling snow could worsen conditions.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for all of western Iowa from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Friday.
