(Red Oak) The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors set a public hearing for the FY 2021-2022 Total Maximum Property Tax Dollars Levied at their meeting this morning.
Montgomery County Auditor Stephanie Burke said this is new legislation that passed last year, so it’s the second year that counties and cities have to publish maximum property tax dollars that they can collect.
“If the tax dollars are more than last year by 2% then we have to publish a reasoning for that. There was a small increase of property tax dollars requested of 2.45% and that was for health insurance and then we also have a decrease in .34 cents in the Rural and that was because we are working closely on the budget and trying to reduce levies and the valuations weren’t as high for the General Supplemental, so in other words this is just a public hearing that we have to do before we have to adopt the budget later on in March,” explained Burke.
The public hearing will be held February 23rd at 8:45 a.m.
