(Des Moines) The Iowa Senate last week passed a bill that allows parents of K-12 student vouchers provided by the state to attend a private institution.
Iowa District 11 Republican Senator Tom Shipley says thirty-four buildings have been determined deficient. “The idea of the Bill is if your child is in one of those buildings, and parents want their student to go somewhere else, the Bill would provide some funding to go along with it,” explained Shipley. “This is a huge Bill with a lot of opposition, and granted it got amended down, but there were a lot of things in it that I didn’t particularly care for.”
The Bill barely passed in the senate with 26-votes. No Democratic Senators voted for it. A similar bill is available for legislation in the Iowa House.
