(Council Bluffs) Three players scored in double-figures to lead Atlantic past Lewis Central, 53-47, at Lewis Central on Friday night. The win snaps a four-game losing streak to the Titans.
Skylar Handlos led the charge with 13-points, Ethan Sturm knocked down 12-points, and Dayton Templeton finished with 10-points for the Trojans. Nick Miller led Lewis Central with 12-points, and Colby Souther added 10-points for the Titans.
Wyatt Hatcher and Colby Souther each buried two –three-point baskets in the first quarter to give the home team a 10-6 advantage. The Trojans led by Dayton Templeton’s 8 second-quarter points pushed the visitors to a 22-21 lead at the break. Craig Alan Becker hit a key three-point basket in the third quarter to put the Trojans up 34-31. Ethan Sturm provided the “hot hand” for Atlantic in the final stanza with four-three point baskets to seal the 53-47 win over the Titans.
“Ethan Sturm stepping up and making those three-point baskets is a bonus having him back,” said Ebling. “There are some others that haven’t got it going just yet on the offense end, but we know they’re going to, and that is exciting to us.”
The Trojans outscored the Titans 15-12, in the second quarter, 13-9, in the third, and 20 –18 in the final period to hold off Lewis Central.
“I thought we did a great job on the defensive end,” said Atlantic Head Coach Jeff Ebling. “We knew they were going to push the ball inside on us, and we didn’t back down.”
Craig Alan Becker and Ethan Williams finished the night with 8-points each, and Garrett Reynolds chipped in two.
Others contributing for Lewis Central are; J.C. Dermody, with 8, Wyatt Hatcher, 7, Dylan Carroll, 4, and Nash Paulson, Trenton Johnette, and Devin Nailor each pitched in two-points a piece.
Atlantic moves to 2-2 on the season with a home game against Nodaway Valley on Saturday night. Lewis Central falls to 3-4.
