(Area) With Iowa’s Shotgun Deer Season underway the Iowa DNR is reminding hunters to keep safety and ethics in mind.
Harvesting that deer is just one of the primary elements involved when a hunter takes the field. Here’s Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR. “We want to have a safe and ethical hunt. Ethics is really important. We want to remind deer hunters as they take to the field that other people are watching and observing. Use ethics. Our laws are set up to provide for an ethical hunt.”
The list of dont’s includes: “Things like not using radios and not chasing with trucks. That crosses the line of ethics and crosses the line of what we consider fair chase.”
Hayes says there were eight incidents of personal injury or property damage while deer hunting. “Firearm safety should be on the front of your mind as you take the field. Basic firearm rules are pretty straight forward. Treat every firearm as if it’s loaded. Always point that muzzle in a safe direction. Be sure of your target and what’s beyond your target.”
Hunting regulations can be divided into two categories. One category is for safety and the other category is for managing the deer population.
