(Atlantic) The Atlantic girls’ basketball team opens the season on the road at Creston tonight. The Panthers opened a week ago, against Des Moines, Christian, and fell short 56-52. The Panthers topped Winterset last night, 60-34.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says the tentative starting lineup includes Jada Jensen, Haley Rasmussen, Taylor McCreedy, Maycie Waters, and Tessa Grooms, with Lauren Nicholas first off the bench. “I have six players that could start,” said Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason. “We have players that can come off the bench, and sometimes that’s better.”
Coach Vargason says defensive pressure will be a key for the Trojans. “Creston was winning the game against Des Moines, Christian until they cranked up the pressure and swung the game 15-points,” said Vargason. “We play pressure defense, and that bodes well for us. But, they are tall at the post position averaging 28-points inside. We’re going to have to make them run the floor and dribble through the press for 32-minutes.”
We will have the broadcast on 95.7 F.M. and KS957.com. Pre-game starts at around 5:45 p.m. the tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
