(Atlantic) Santa Claus arrived at the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce Office in downtown Atlantic on Thursday evening for the Annual Grand Lighting Ceremony. Due to the Governor’s latest COVID mitigation measures, there were no free hot dogs, and Santa didn’t arrive on a helicopter-like he usually does, but that didn’t stop Santa or people from coming to town. People were asked to park along Main Street, stay in their vehicles, and listen to Santa on KS95.7 F.M.
Then-Santa asked everyone to cast their Christmas spirit by honking their horns, which sent the nearly 200,000 lights a glow, signifying Atlantic’s official start to the Christmas season.
The Atlantic Fire Department transported Santa to his cabin for his initial visit with the children from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The Lighted Parade is scheduled for December 5, starting at 6:00 p.m. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, people must park along Chestnut and Walnut Streets and remain in your vehicle at all times. There will be no fireworks, and candy and promotional items etc., will not be permitted.
The route begins on Walnut Street and continues down Chestnut Street. Float registration forms can be picked up at atlanticiowa.com.
Before the Lighted Parade, Santa will be in his cabin from 3:00 p.m.- 5:30 p.m.
