(Atlantic) Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber last week sent out a memo to parents, staff, and the media about an increase in COVID-19 cases in Cass County, and some of those cases showed up in the Atlantic School s in students and staff members.
Barber says when there are positive cases, there are quarantines, and the district had to quarantine some classes. Based on the district’s approach to COVID-19 protocol, some school rooms are in a bubble versus some practicing social distancing in that environment.
Barber is optimistic those test results come back negative and get the effected staff and students back to work once the quarantine period expires. Barber says interruption in the classroom is limited when staff or students are under quarantine.
Barber admits COVID-19 is new for everybody, and it’s complicated.
Barber says the school district continues to follow CDC and IDPH guidelines as the spike in cases occurred in Cass County this past week. He encourages everyone to follow mitigation strategies of social distancing, handwashing, mask usage, disinfecting, and other techniques to help stop the spread.
