(Anita) CAM is off to a red hot start in baseball and has a big game on the calendar to start week two of the season.
The Cougars will take on Coon Rapids-Bayard in a matchup of Rolling Valley Conference contenders. It’ll be played in Coon Rapids at 5:30 p.m. Monday. CAM’s 3-0 start to the year has featured them outscoring their opponents by a combined 46-1. Coach Dan Daugherty says, “Up and down the lineup everybody is putting the ball in play. Everyone is hitting the ball hard and we are cutting down on our strikeouts. I’m pleased so far, but it it still early.”
CAM wins over Exira-EHK, East Union, and West Harrison thus far. Joe Kauffman is hitting an incredible 9/10 on the season and leads the team with 7 RBI. Kolby Nelson carries a .556 while Colby Rich and Lane Spieker have each hit home runs. The Cougars are hitting .430 as a team. The pitching staff has been deep and everyone has been effective. Jacob Holste, Lane Spieker, Kolby Nelson, Cade Ticknor, and Joe Kauffman have divided up the duties on the hill for a team that’s allowed only one run in three games. They’ve played good defense too, “We’ve made one error each game so if we can keep that up all year we are going to be alright.”
Daugherty admits getting back into the swing of things took some time, but all’s gone well. We’ll have CAM baseball on the air on Wednesday when they meet Glidden-Ralston.
