(Newfolden, Minnesota) Minnesota corn farmers still have a good number of 2019 crop left to harvest, even as the 2020 planting season gets closer. Todd Bjorgaard farms near Newfolden, located in northwest Minnesota, and says they still have a lot of corn to do in his area.
Bjorgaard says corn that sat through the winter seemed to dry out and gain some test weights, as long as it was able to fully mature last fall.
Blair Hoseth farms near Mahnomen, in west central Minnesota, and says many farmers had to leave their corn out in the field through the winter because of high moisture and low test weight.
Hoseth has been combining his leftover corn since last week and says it’s remarkable how much the corn lost in moisture and gained in test weights out in the fields through the winter.
Hoseth says it’s not the first time they’ve had to leave corn in the fields through the winter and this is typical of the results they’ve seen in previous years as far as drying down and gaining test weight.
