(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council will present the final plans and specifications for the Atlantic Animal Shelter Building addition. This past July, the Council approved the engineering agreement with Snyder and Associates.
The project is funded by the generous contribution from the Lorene Eppelsheimer estate. The former Griswold school teacher willed $135,000 to the Atlantic Animal Shelter. The only instructions were to use the funds to benefit the animals.
Kris Erickson, Atlantic’s Code Enforcement Officer, and Animal Shelter Manager will use the money to build an 18×36-feet addition to the shelter. The added space will allow for cats and dogs to be separated. The new structure will also allow for additional rows of cages for the cats. Included in the plans will be a grooming station and veterinary area. The building update also includes energy-efficient lighting, expanded storage, and separation of the water and electrical lines.
Bid date and public hearing for the addition on April 1, at 5:30 p.m., will be acted on by the Council.
In other activity, a resolution adopting the preliminary fiscal year 2021 budget for March 18 to adopt the budget. The Council will also hold a public hearing and act on a proposal to enter into a general obligation loan agreement for the transfer of funds for a lower interest rate.
