(Guthrie Center) Seth Danker, Gunnar Larsen, and Cale Rowley are headed to the state wrestling tournament this week. Danker and Larsen are each making their second trip to state while it is the first qualification for Rowley.
Danker is hoping for a better showing than his 0-2 record at the 2018 state tournament. He’s paired up with 39-8 Trey Nelson, of Nashua-Plainfield, in the first round. Danker, at 31-6, will face either #1 47-0 Adam Allard (West Sioux) or #8 44-1 Karter Decker (MFL-MarMac) in his second match. Allard is going for a 4th state title.
Larsen has a 35-6 record and will meet #9 42-4 Nate Thomsen (East Sac). It’s a rematch of a 7-3 Larsen win at state last season. Larsen went 1-2 at state last year with losses to the eventual 3rd and 5th place finishers. At the District Tournament Larsen avenged two prior losses to AHSTW’s Joel Sampson and also notched a big win over #10 Zane Ziegler.
Cale Rowley is 30-16 in his junior season. He’s paired up against 30-6 Connor Golston, of Moravia. Golsten dealt Rowley a 10-1 loss in the 5th place match of this year’s Charger Invite. If Rowley can avenge that loss he’s likely see three-time place winner and 3rd ranked Daniel Meeker, of Wapello, in a quarterfinal. His other possible second opponent is #6 27-2 Gabe McGeough, of MFL-Mar Mac.
Class 1A wrestlers hit the mats at 6:00 p.m. Thursday. KSOM will have updates both on the air and through our website. Click below for the interview with ACGC coach Shawn Danker.
