(Audubon) The Matt Wilder Era of Audubon baseball couldn’t have begun much better than it did Monday night.
The Wheelers scored ten first inning runs on their way to a 25-2 decision over WIC foe Riverside. In a game that was moved up to a 5:30 varsity start the visitors had no trouble getting things going early. Eleven of the first twelve batters reached safely in the top of the first with Skyler Schultes and Marcus Olsen each scoring two runs before the opening frame was over. The big shot was from Derek Porsch with a three run double.
Audubon added one run in the 2nd, another in the 3rd, and then broke out with another big figure in the 4th. Luke Mosinski, Eric Hermansen, Jackson Jensen, Marcus Olsen, and Ethan Klocke all drove in runs in a thirteen run fourth inning. Audubon drew nine walks and had fifteen hits in the victory against five different Riverside pitchers.
Skyler Schultes struck out five batters in his two innings on the mound while Eric Hermansen tossed a pair of scoreless innings in relief. Offensive leaders for Audubon included Schultes going 3/4 along with two hit games from Olsen, Joel Klocke, and Jensen.
Riverside’s two runs came in the 1st inning. Rhett Bentley walked and scored while Wyatt Hough singled and scored. Jake Ericksen had an RBI in the inning and Ethan Reicks hit a single. Reicks finished with two of the team’s four hits. .
