(Creston) Haley Rasmussen scored 35-points, Maycie Waters added 20, and McKenzie Waters knocked down 10-points to lead Atlantic past Creston 80-76 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference girls’ basketball game at Creston on Friday night.
Rasmussen, who entered the game averaging 18.6 per game, buried seven-three point baskets. Waters took some pressure off Rasmussen with six baskets from beyond the arc.
“We had a great shooting night,” said Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason. “Last year they shot us out of the gym down here.
“Maycie Waters had a huge game for us, and Haley Rasmussen was incredible,” said Vargason. “The entire team played well. I’m very proud of our girls.”
Kelsie Fields led Creston with 35-points and Rylie Driskell scored 14, including four three-point shots.
The Trojans held quarter leads of 22-20, 41-37, 63-55 and 80-76.
Rasmussen scored 23 first-half points and Waters chipped in nine to give the Trojans a 41-37 advantage at the break. Kelsie Fields, the Panthers 6’3 post player made her presence known inside. The junior kept the home team in the game with 20 points in the first half.
The Trojans built a 63-53 lead late in the third quarter, but the Panthers crawled back into the game in the final stanza outscoring Atlantic 22-17. However, the Trojan held off the Panthers with some key free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Atlantic evens their record at (3-3) and (2-1) in the Conference. Creston falls to (3-2), and (1-1) in conference play. Atlantic hosts Kuemper on Tuesday night. Creston travels to Shenandoah.
