(Omaha) A monthly survey of Midwest business leaders paints a positive picture of the region’s economy in October, with manufacturing activity and employment continuing to improve.
Creighton University Economics Professor Ernie Goss says the nine-state Mid-America Business Conditions Index indicates the regional manufacturing sector added 8,600 jobs over the past 12 months.
Goss says October’s survey also produced positive overall numbers, marking the ninth consecutive month of economic growth across the region.
The survey tracks business conditions in nine Midwestern states, providing insight into manufacturing activity, employment, new orders, production and business confidence.
The continued positive readings suggest the region’s manufacturing economy is maintaining momentum, with job growth providing another encouraging sign for Midwest businesses.
The survey is closely watched as an indicator of economic conditions because manufacturing activity can offer an early look at broader regional economic trends.
