(Pottawattamie County) Pottawattamie County is recognizing November 21st as National Adoption Day, highlighting the importance of finding safe, permanent and loving homes for children in foster care.
The County Board of Supervisors approved a proclamation recognizing the day. According to the proclamation, more than 100,000 children in the United States foster care system are waiting to be adopted, including more than 880 children in Iowa.
Within Iowa’s Fourth Judicial District, which includes nine southwest Iowa counties, approximately 50 children are currently waiting for permanent families.
Judge Kathleen Kilnoski thanked the Supervisors for 20-years of supporting the celebration of National Adoption Day.
To help those children find lasting homes, the Fourth Judicial District will open the Pottawattamie County Courthouse on Saturday, November 21st, to finalize local adoptions and celebrate families welcoming children into their homes.
The county also expressed appreciation to foster and adoptive parents, families and professionals who dedicate their time and resources to helping children in the community.
