(Underwood, IA) — Underwood’s football team has clinched the #2 seed out of Class 1A, District 8 and will finish the regular season this Friday hosting winless Red Oak.
Last week, the Eagles beat Shenandoah 35-12 but Head Coach Nate Mechaelsen says it was not perfect — they only led 14-12 at the half. Sophomore River Allen ran for 103 yards and a TD and Senior Charlie Myers ran for 80 yards and a TD. Mechaelsen says they are similar type of guys, they are similar type of runners and they are both competitive
Underwood has a lot of receivers for Sophomore QB Nash Mitchell to throw to — Junior Maddox Mechaelsen leads with 27 catches for 345 yards and 2 TD; Sophomore Jackson Brecher has 25 receptions for 253 and 1 TD; and Senior Kyle Sub has 23 catches for 253 yards and 4 scores. Coach Mechaelsen says it might be a different guy who steps up every week
Another young player for Underwood is Sophomore DB Jace Blum who had a 54 yard INT return for a TD against the Mustangs and led the defense with 11 tackles, 10 solo.
Underwood faces a Red Oak team that is hungry for a win
