(Audubon) The Audubon County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday addressed an ordinance change for the proposed Wind Tower Project projected to run from Highway 71 west to Kimballton. The supervisors held a public hearing with Officials from Apex Clean Energy and a handful of community members.
Audubon County Supervisor Chairman Kent Grabil told KSOM/KS95 News that the proposed ordinance changes the setback wording for residences. He says the wording will change from “Dwelling” to “Human Occupiable residence.” He says the change is to protect people living in rural areas.
Grabil says the supervisors approved the amendment on the first reading, and will hold off on the second reading following another public hearing on October 20th at 10:00 a.m.
Grabil says the free-standing height of a wind turbine is now set at 750 feet; anything above 750 feet would need a special permit. The current height is 500 feet.
Meanwhile, Grabil says Apex Clean Energy has been a great partner.
Apex Clean Energy intends to start the project either next year or in 2028, with the goal of having the turbines operational by 2029.
