(Treynor, IA) — The Treynor Cardinals are sitting pretty at 3-0 in Class 1A District 8, but they’ll have to finish the regular season without one of their most versatile players.
Running back Finn Mieska went down with an injury in the third quarter of last Friday’s 27-12 win at Tri-Center and will miss the rest of the season. Head Coach Jeff Casey says Mieska’s impact goes well beyond the offense, and other players will have to step up:
Dylan Dreyer filled in at running back on the wet and muddy field in Neola and helped the Cardinals grind out their fourth straight win. Casey says the conditions played right into Dreyer’s hands:
At 5-1 overall, Treynor holds a one-game lead over Shenandoah and Underwood in the district, and the Cardinals have already beaten both. It’s been tough sledding for the Tigers, who are 0-7 and have scored just 39 points all season while giving up 278. Red Oak has been shut out twice, and its closest game was a 3-0 loss to West Central Valley back in September. The Tigers put up a season-high 13 points last Friday but still fell to Shenandoah 49-13.
Kickoff is at 7:00 PM Friday in Treynor.
