(Atlantic) Atlantic is coming off one of their best performances of the season with a 28-0 win over Creston last week in the Class 3A District opener.
Ball Control, coupled with solid defense, proved to be the difference in the contest. At one point, the Trojans controlled the football on a scoring drive that put them up 10:26 seconds off the clock. The Trojans’ defense held the Panthers to just 69 yards on the ground.
Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer says this was the most complete game his team has played against Creston.
The Trojans rushed for 238 yards last week, and head into Friday’s game at Perry with 1, 201 rushing yards led by an improving offense consisting of all underclassmen.
Perry has a solid running game, led by Nadir Ouabi, with 1,089 rushing yards. The senior has 98 carries for 612 yards, and two touchdowns, along a 6.2 yards per carry average.
Coach Brummer says the Bluejays have played a 4-3 defense, switched to a 4-4, and played a 5-2 against the Trojans. He says they have prepared this week for all three defenses.
The Trojans have proven they can throw the football. Sophomore James Brauer enters the game with a 137.8 quarterback rating and a 51.6 percent completion percentage. He is 32-62 for 433 yards so far this season with seven touchdown passes. Zander Killion and Jake Wailes lead the receiving corps with 145 and 127 yards, respectively.
