(Harlan) Atlantic rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Harlan 3-1 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference volleyball match Tuesday night.
The opening set featured nine lead changes and eight ties. Harlan broke a 16-16 tie and held on for a 25-23 win.
The second set was also closely contested, with five lead changes and four ties. Atlantic broke a 7-7 tie, built a 20-14 lead, and won 25-22.
The Trojans carried that momentum into the third set, winning 25-16. Atlantic scored 11 straight points with Reese Ball serving.
The Trojans closed out the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth set to take the match 3-1.
Atlantic Head Coach Alyssa Boltz says the Trojans dug themselves into a bit of a hole in the first set.
London Kirchhoff and Ellie Benning had a good night setting the ball, along with Libero Alivia Knuth. Reese Harlan, Jillian Saathoff, Emerie Jones, Madison McLaren, and Brynn Lamp all had big nights at the net, both in kills and blocks. Senior Co-Captain Jillian Saathoff says one key to success was finding gaps and recognizing holes on the floor.
Saathoff also credited several teammates for their efforts.
The Trojans hit the road again on Thursday night at St. Albert.
