(Griswold, IA) — Griswold fought hard on Tuesday night but #14 Sidney beat the Tigers in four sets to stay in 2nd place in the Corner Conference standings.
The Cowgirls won it 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, and 25-9.
Sidney won 9 of the last 11 points to dominate the first set and then took an early 7-2 lead in the 2nd set. However, Griswold hung around — the Cowgirls led 8-4 but the Tigers cut the lead to 9-8. Sidney led 12-8 and 15-9. Griswold chipped away and got two blocks in a row to trail 16-18. With Addy Gade serving, the Tigers got four points including two aces to take a 20-18 lead. Keyana Haggerty took over serve and Sidney retook a 22-21 lead. The Tigers got a sideout and Camille Dorscher would serve out the set. They got a block to make it 23-22; Myler Maher hit one out of bounds and then the Tigers won a battle at the net to win the set.
The third set was back and forth — Griswold took a 19-16 lead on Arika Palmer’s serve. Back came Sidney with Haggerty serving up three points including an ace to lead 20-19. Griswold retook a 21-20 advantage. After a sideout, Sidney got three more points on serve and sideout sideout ended the set in favor of the Cowgirls.
Sidney dominated the third set — with a 10-7 lead, the Cowgirls only allowed two more points the rest of the match as Haggerty heated up with some strong kills to lead the way.
