(Council Bluffs) A Council Bluffs man is in custody following a brief standoff on Sunday Morning.
Council Bluffs Police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Harrison Street at around 5:56 a.m. regarding Jonathon Chestnut, who reportedly violated a valid restraining order. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who stated Chestnut was inside her apartment. Officers attempted to make contact with Chestnut, but he refused to come out and claimed he was armed with a gun.
The Emergency Services Team (EST) and negotiators were called to assist. After approximately two hours of unsuccessful attempts by negotiators to make contact, EST made entry with the assistance of a department K-9, and 42-year-old Jonathon T. Chestnut was taken into custody.
Chestnut sustained minor injuries during his apprehension and was treated and released from the hospital.
Chestnut was charged with interference with official acts while displaying a weapon, violation of a no contact/protection order, and stalking. Upon his release from the hospital, he was booked into Pottawattamie County Corrections.
The 300 block of Harrison Street was closed for about three hours because of the incident.
