(Atlantic) The Vision Atlantic-owned tiny homes are seeing strong use since opening in July. The development, now known as the Homestead of Prairie Hills, has bookings through July 2027.
Vision Atlantic Vice-President Jessie Shiels tells KSOM-KS95 News there have been some misconceptions about the tiny homes, particularly regarding ceiling height and square footage. While the units are smaller than a typical home, Shiels says they are not as small as some people may think, and there is still plenty of room to move around.
Shiels says that when the group first began discussing housing, they recognized a need in Atlantic for places where visitors could stay.
Shiels says the tiny homes are Vision Atlantic’s own project, separate from the homes for sale funded through the $ 23 million Lakin Foundation’s southwest Iowa revitalization fund. Shiels says a small portion of that fund was used for a mortgage down payment with the First Whitney Bank and Rolling Hills Bank and Trust to build the tiny homes owned by Vision Atlantic.
Shiels says they have received many positive comments from people who have rented the tiny homes. Shiels says the tiny homes can and have been used for a variety of stays, including families traveling to Atlantic for funerals or holidays. Shiels says several families attending weddings have booked all ten units. Shiels says Vision Atlantic is also excited that the new CEO of Cass Health is building a home in the Camblin Hills Addition and will rent one of the tiny homes while waiting for the new home to be completed.

Shiels says Vision Atlantic eventually plans to advertise the tiny homes on Airbnb and VRBO.
