(Atlantic) Atlantic junior cross-country runner Mason Betts has qualified for his second straight state cross-country meet. Betts finished third at the qualifying meet with a season-best time of 16:27.04. For his performance, Betts is this week’s KS95.7 Armour Insurance Athlete of the Week.
Betts says he enjoys competing against some of the state’s top runners.
And Betts embraces the opportunity to test himself against the state’s best competition.
Betts says last season, he focused on getting accustomed to competing at a high level.
With one state meet under his belt, Betts believes his experience at Fort Dodge last year will help him handle this year’s race mentally and physically.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says the goal is to bring home hardware at this Saturday’s state meet.
The Class 3A boys’ state cross-country race is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at 11:15 a.m. at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
