(Missouri Valley) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, August 19 regarding environmental activities at the former Offutt Air Force Base Atlas “D” Missile Site 3 near Missouri Valley.
The site was used for potential intercontinental ballistic missile launches until it was deactivated in 1964. Current environmental work is focused on identifying contamination from Cold War missile defense activities.
The meeting will include updates on pilot studies, ongoing sampling, groundwater plume maps, a planned vapor intrusion investigation and project schedules. The public will also have an opportunity to provide feedback.
The meeting will be held at the Rand Community Center, 100 South 4th Street, in Missouri Valley. An open-house poster session will run from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a presentation from 7 to 8 p.m.
