(Audubon, IA) — Audubon’s Baseball team will have a new look next season. With Thursday’s vote by the Audubon School Board, the Wheelers will be combined with Exira EHK next summer. The Wheelers could use the numbers after just 15 kids came out for baseball this year.
That gave the Miller brothers a chance to play and the 8th graders emerged as leaders on the field. Dawson led the Wheelers in hitting at .407 and had a 2.60 ERA on the mound in 5 starts and 9 pitching appearances; Dalton had a 2.57 ERA in 4 starts, 8 appearances and batted .237. Replacing Brody Schultes in center field and on the mound will be a big priority for Borkowski. Pitching wise, Sophomores Jorgen Nowatzke and Paxton Beane will get more innings along with the Millers
Audubon will have new teammates with the Spartans now part of the program and even before the final school board vote, Borkowski welcomes their addition but he does not know much right now about the players coming
Audubon finished 5-16 overall and graduated two seniors — Schultes and Walter Vetter.
