(Audubon, IA) — The Audubon School District held an informational meeting on Tuesday night concerning the proposed athletic merger with Exira EHK. About 60 people met in the auditorium and listening to the presentation from School Board Member Anne Miller, Athletic Director Sean Birks and Superintendent Trever Miller. Anne Miller addressed the concern that Audubon was going into this potential agreement in happenstance and too quickly. She says a joint committee with Exira EHK was formed to examine a shared athletic program
The proposed shared agreement with Exira EHK would not be permanent — it would be four years for all girls sports except volleyball and three years for boys sports except for varsity football. AD Sean Birks outlines what the sports would look like
Birks also said that the sports would remain at the Class 1A which is important.
Trever Miller says that if participation levels change for either school, they could exit the shared agreement and give notice but that has to be ironed out
Birks believes that after this agreement expires that Audubon will go back on its own for athletics
The Exira EHK unanimously approved the shared athletic agreement on July 14; the Audubon School Board is scheduled to vote on Thursday in a special session.
