(Des Moines, IA) — The Democratic National Committee is denying the Iowa Democrats’ bid to return the first-in-the-nation democratic caucuses to Iowa. Rita Hart is the Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party.
South Carolina is set to remain the first Democratic presidential primary state. It comes after the state secured the recommendation of the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws panel. Earlier this year, representatives from the Iowa Democratic Party made a pitch to the DNC to return first-in-the-nation democratic caucuses to Iowa. Meanwhile, the Iowa Republican Party will host Caucuses in 2028 that will be the first in the nation for GOP presidential candidates.
Iowa Republican Party Chariman Jeff Kaufmann says the DNC’s decision will not change the Iowa GOP’s plans moving forward and that the DNC’s decision is a missed opportunity.
Kaufmann says not only has Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters voiced support for the current first-in-the-nation Iowa GOP caucus, he said he’s also had conversations with the President who pledges to support the Caucus system as it is.
