(Audubon, IA) — Exira EHK Audubon Softball is preparing for the first round of the Class 1A State Softball Tournament which is on Monday — the Spartans are the number one seed and battle Edgewood Colesburg at Noon, coverage on KSOM.
The Spartans have three seniors and two of them were on the team when they went to the 2A Finals in 2024 and lost to Van Meter. CF Anna Larsen is batting .431 with 25 RBI this season — when they went to state the last time, Larsen was only hitting .192. She says she has worked hard to improve all aspects of her game
The Spartans are 23-4 on the season — the four losses have come against Logan Magnolia, Riverside and Missouri Valley twice. RF Jordon Mulford is hitting .333 and she says the team has learned from those defeats
The third senior Abby Wanser was not with the team two years ago — she was with IKM Manning before and now mans LF for Exira EHK Audubon hitting .284. She says she was accepted into the softball family instantly
An underrated player for the Spartans is Sophomore Catcher Zoey Rasmussen who is only hitting .212 but has solidified the defense behind the plate. She says the team cannot assume they are going to win the state title just because they are the #1 ranked team
Exira EHK Audubon will play the Vikings of Ed Co in the first round Monday, first pitch at 12:00 pm, coverage on 96.5 FM KSOM. Meet the Spartans airs Monday at 10 am and will have interviews with the entire team.
